I have a 125 setup with lots of plants and a heavy stock, filtered by an fx5 and a penguin 350. With a lot of plants though, I don't think the 350 is ideal. I'm thinking about replacing it with another canister. This will result in less gas exchange, more flow, and better media options. Given the inexpensive cost of the aquatop cf-500, I am liking it quite a bit. It is certainly higher filtration, which is good with the heavy bioload. It has a decent flow, good media space, and the uv sterilizer. I think the uv sterilizer is awesome, especially with a planted tank. Can those with experience with them give me some feedback on them? Is my thought process accurate? Any suggestions or tips? Should I go a completely different direction? Any and all advice is appreciated

I have 2 of them on my 125 have had no problems with water quality. They are easy to use and clean. The hose for the Rt side of the tank is very long. Both canisters are in the Lt side cabinet this make that canister very hard to prime. So if possible use as small amount of hose as you can and try and keep it pretty well straight

Ive got one on my 90 gallon planted tank with an fx5. Works great. The UV does work some but not the most efficent.

One note. You DO want a nice ripple on the surface for gas exchange. Its benificial to plants and livestock. Thats why I also use some powerheads and an AC110 for surface aggitation. My tank is a severe Jungle. Loaded with heavy plants. High light with Co2 and dry ferts.
