Has anyone tried or used one of their sterilizers in-line? I'm thinking of ordering this:

I'm fixing to setup a 300+ gallon tank and wanting to get a good in-line for my 2262 or fx6.

Those canisters move a ton of water, with a tank that large with that much water movement, I don't know if the contact time with a 36w would be enough to effectively sterilize pathogens or algae.

I don't run a UV so I don't know for certain, but I'd think you'd want something more powerful, move less water past the 36w so it has good contact time with water.

Depending on what you want the uv to do, it is 1. too small for a 300gal+ tank and 2. flow in the fx5 is way too high. Your looking at needing more like 40+Watts in a 300 and ~300gph if you want to kill bacteria. If you just want clearer water you might be able to get away with the 36watt. Here is a simple chart though not 100% accurate

I use a 36W TurboTwist on my FX5 and it works fine to keep down on green water issues but thats all its for. Just have to plumb it with vinyl tubing instead of the ribbed hose Fluval gives. Works good for nice clear water.

I have a 36W turbotwist on my 1000G out door pond and water is always crystal clear, never have problem with algae.

I think it was in setup and filtration that there is a reall good thread about UV units... Might be worth checking out?

I like that Vecton-6 on that page and I've seen that site before when looking for uv's. Ever use them?
