Hello everyone, I am new here, have 40 yrs in aquarium keeping , and recently got back into Livebearer tanks after 25 yrs of Reefkeeping. Love eheims for my canisters but I have become irritated with the price jump on aquaclear filters especially the 110 model as the newest one I have has been loud and Hagen would not replace the pump since I mistakenly lost the saleslip. How are the Aqueon filters as they seem well made and half the price of Hagen whom after loving them are not my favorite at the moment.

I stand strong behind the Aqua Clear's too. I'd be hard pressed to make the change, regardless of price. You may find a few who think differently, but those who use the AC filters, LOVE THEM.

Welcome to MFK as well.

Thanks Guys I apppreciate your comments and I too lean towards the ACs but I changed impellars and cleaned the pump housing and it still rattles compared tothe other 3 110s I own I cannot figure it out . I will go buy a new pump but then with the impellar I already bought plus a new pump I could have bought another albeit smaller AC. Thanks!!!

i have both i have a aquaclear 70 and 50 and a aqueon 20 and they are great buti do love the aqua clear the most and i never had a problem with it

Check the shaft that the impeller spins on. ( very low cost item from Hagen).
If its buggered up or worn out the filter will make noise, not to mention ,probably ruin a new impeller.
I replace my impeller needlessly, the shaft was the culprit.

if your AC filter makes noise it can only be one of two things:

1. impeller or shaft wear, causing it to spin out of balance (or it is not seated properly)

or

2. the lid is rattling.

other than that, there really isn't much else it could be (assuming that the U tube part is properly in place too).

check it out and see if the rattle goes away.

i appreciate that but I alrwady relaced the shaft and impellar and The cover does not appear to rattling so Maybe I just try a different shaft, Thanks.
