Which company makes better products? Is one brand cooler to have than the other? I ask because I was at the store today and they make a lot of the same stuff and one doesn't appear to be better, so I decided to pick a team so to speak. I am currently sporting an Aqueon light, but I have marineland filters. oh and a fluval heater. I am indecisive haha Opinions?

To be perfectly clear, a filter is only as good as it's timely maintenance and water changes behind it. Having said that, I have never used Aqueon, but can say with confidence that Marineland makes a good product.

Filter wars are a non-issue as far as i am concerned. If what you can afford functions for a long period of time (years and years and years and years) by pushing a required amount of water through media, and you keep the filter and media full of beneficial bacteria and clean, then, well it doesn't really matter what name is on the filter, or if you make it yourself.

I only make this point because "coolness" because of name brand shouldn't enter into the equation really :)

Is one brand cooler to have than the other??...I wasn't aware anyone selected their tank equipment with coolness factor in mind but most of my filters are Marineland stuff mainly because I have had them for years..This Aqueon though seems to be somewhat of a new kid on the block and I don't know much about them.I do see plenty if their stuff on the shelves at the Walmart's and Petco type places.

I think Marineland makes the highest quality glass aquarium available today. The rest of the product line and all Aqueon products are just mediocre. That's just my opinion, though. I still purchase products from both companies. I am a mediocre guy.

All the Marineland tanks I have are braced even the 55g. Find an old hagen and compare glass thickness and quality of the silicone job vs a Marineland. The hagens make them look cheap

How old are your Marineland tanks? I said avalable today, not something that used to be around. What is wrong with center bracing? Does that make it inferior? I have a 60x24x24" 1/2" sides 3/4" bottom center braced that has super clean black silicone and is the most beastly tank I have ever owned. Hagen tanks are mighty purty, though. I don't think they are well built. Just purty. They remind me of the house of the future from 1955.'

I'll take pics of the silicone in my hagen vs the Marineland. . Hagen is like a machine did it. Marineland looks like a finger ran up it no doubt. Braces are there so they can use thinner glass.

Also my 180 miracles I bought leaking is almost 100 lbs heavier then the 140. But the 140 Is a 30" tall tank. And the glass Is still thicker on the 180 at 24". They should at the very least be the same given the height of the 140.

Pic 1 is Marineland 140g silicone is half the size and not half as clean as pic 2 the 135 hagen. Can use the heater as reference there both the same size.

This 24" tall tank has the same glass thickness as the 140g. My 180 from miracles has no bracing and the glass is much thicker then both. Indicating to me that there's 2 tank companies right there that build better tanks.

I had a 65g hagen believe it was 3x18x24 no brace and it took 2 guys to carry. The Marineland 55 has the same thickness glass as my 30g miracles. The 55 has a brace and I can move it myself. There tanks are average and mass produced.
Pic 3 is the 30 miracles pic 4 is a Marineland 55.
