  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They don't have a guideline for 40 gallon, I am looking at increase of 17 degrees. But I think I am right spot.

they tend to try to get you to use a big heater.. it's sometimes needed in cold climate.. keep the lids closed and keep the heater next to a powehead or filter outflow.. that will help a little

I have a vera top and haven't cut and used the plastic part of it, so the tank has opening of 36" x 2-3" inches. I will bove the heater closer to sponge filter.

Definitely install the plastic trim on the Versa-Top as it will help to keep more heat in the tank especially in a colder room. If you are waiting to trim that plastic to fit equipment, you can use a plastic bag to temporarily close off the openings but be sure any dripping water will fall into the tank rather than down the back of the tank. ?

Yep, I will probably go to home depot and ask them if they can trim it for me.

The heaters are also more efficient if they are installed horizontally. I hate the look personally but I that and a powerhead with some drift wood. Its on the right side of my profile pic. The sailfin is usually right in front of the powerhead as well.

I would say especially based off the provided guide that for a more than 15 degree difference you'll need at least a 200 watt

I kept it vertical to get easy access to the knob. I have one HOB and sponge filter on each side. It would be hard to hide it. It will be my flowerhorn tank.

if you can put that heater right next to the hob intake it would help.. that hob can move a bunch of warm water around for you.. it seems to help a bunch.. i use 200 watt heaters in 75's , house temp around 68-70..water kept at 80

You can cut the plastic trim yourself using a utility knife (make multiple scores) using a straight edge or use a hacksaw blade in a pinch.

Thanks. I have 5 degree extra difference and less water, I should be okay then.

I did cut it just now using kitchen knife. And put it on.
