Aqueon vs. Python Water Changer - Which one is better?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I should state I use the Python to drain my 75g (sink) and use the FX5 to drain the 210g into the garden. If I could get that contraption I made to suck more it would replace my python faucet pump. I did try it outside at the garden hose bib but got the same results as using it attached to the kitchen faucet. I could use it w/o the faucet/hose bib on and just drain by gravity feed but then we are talking hours.

The key is drilling the opening of the intake tube to fit a 3/4" barb to slide into the 3/4" hose. The python hoses etc are tiny. They are good for 30 gallon tanks at best IMO.

I have used both, and the Python is built better. With that being said, I am using an Aqueon now (got it on sale), and it does the job, but it has some annoying flaws which will ultimately require modifications. The brass faucet attachment is definitely the first thing. And it leaks on the faucet side, but that doesn't bother me too much as long as it doesn't leak on the floor. The most annoying thing is I can't use the shutoff valve on the cleaner side because it is not built strong enough to take the pressure. Some minor replacement of the original parts with stuff from Home Depot will fix the problem. I agree with a previous poster that a DIY system can be the best.
