Arapaima facing possible extinction in the wild

Yes,I saw that in the link.

They have a cure for extinction but the animal rights hate zoos and aquariums. Funny they want to end what can potentially save so many species.

Not pushing my agenda merely replying to some ones post.
I fully understand what the issue is but progress and a growing population always seem to have this effect. Look what we did with the Bison in our want for more and more land. But you should take a look at how many fish species may be wiped out if not for us in the pet world. So my point is valid zoos aquariums and the pet trade can prevent extinction. But who now wants the job of telling the people who will benefit from that dam they can't have it. Everybody would like to construct a project like this without harming anything but it never seems possible. Something no matter how minute to us will end up being disrupted no matter how hard we try.
I do not want to see anything go extinct but may their other choices may have been far worse and more species would be in danger.

The OP article unfortunately seeks to point fingers at local community fisherman. I wonder if the author was aware that all of Brasil, not just parts of the Amazon is being eradicated of species. It's how Brasil views the environment that is the problem.

I can't find the article, but scientists have estimated that species in the rain forest are going extinct faster than we are finding them, and that some untold numbers (hundreds, thousands) are gone that we never identified and of course now never will.

Meanwhile in my city the fish importer for a store that will be left nameless continues to try to import wild caught aripaima as well as other endangered fish so he can have the biggest selection of outrageous fish.

How are you certain they are wild caught.I was under the impression that most of the pimas in the hobby are from Asia?
