Arapaima feeding

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah they'll eat pellets, just gotta get the meaty ones. at my lfs they have a couple 10,000 gallon tanks and you can give them a quarter for a handful of cat food that you can then throw in. its ridiculous fun actually, lol, because they are soooooo mean and loud when they eat.

So meaty cat food is a reasonable option for Arapaima?
I happened by luck or accident to get a 1 meter Arapaima this weekend. Check my thread on how it happened, but in short, it's looking good and seems to establish itself well for now.
He is in a 2x2 meter temporary pond, put in about 600 feeders and he chewed away on half pound of large prawn from Tesco.
I like him to get started on pellets, so cat food migh be a good option there.

Also, any suggestions on food schedule and frequency as well as any other tips to Arapaima keeping are welcome.
If he survives the first couple of weeks then we start on building a pond. I can go to maximum of 1.8m x 7m for now. Could double that in the future if necessary.
