Never heard of someone in the Us having one ,were they rare back then?
The lake of the ozarks is said to have a breeding population of red belly's. It gets just hot enough in spring and summer for em to breed and it stays warm enough for em to though out the winter as long as they stay by the natural springs. I would love to go out there fishing some day and seeing how they taste lol.Didn't know about the harvesting them to catch later. Brings back memories when my Mother had Red line Snakehead's. I remember somewhere here in Ohio a fisherman hooked a Redbelly that was released but no way it would have survived the winter.
I read somewhere that the theory is, it was a pet that got huge and then died.
The owner then dumped the body.
I’m inclined to agree. That may be the case but looking at the size of that thing that would have had to be a huge tank/pond. Unless they are doing some photo magic to make it look bigger than it really is lol
