Aripaima gigas is the most common. Aripaima leptosoma is not often kept, but it is not unheard of. All the rest have either never been kept, or are extremely extremely rare in the hobby. Some zoos probably have the other species.

The store-labeled ‘Aripaima’ is almost always gigas. For this young specimen you can see orange tail spots. Because lack of information, it is hard to see a young juvie leptosoma, but it has the tail spots like one. Aripaima Gigas often has orange on the tail, but it is not placed in spots. All this information is from a little researching and a year and a half on the forum. I don’t know anyone on here that is here regularly that keep aripaimas, let alone aripaima leptosoma.
