So I was deliberately researching these bad boys on the net when I came across something pretty odd looking on you tube.

Link is here:

Look at the water quality and the fact the fish gulps at the end. I was aware they only do that when water quality is low as they can breathe under water?

I believe they do that regularly in the wild. By no means am i condoning the size tank, its far too small, but native tribes of the amazon hunt arapaima by waiting on the boat with a spear and watching for the ripples to show a paima coming up for air.

Hope that helps a little, and feel free to correct me if im wrong anyone!

^ this +1

Pima Giga air-breathers, using its labyrinth organ, which is rich in blood vessels and opens into the fish's mouth.

and this guys next upgrade is only to a 1500G tank... still no where near enough to house this giant...

Thanks, learn something every day. But yes even still, that tank is way too small right?

yeah that pond is sick, and I agree, a Pima is like the size of a small dolphin fully grown. Would you even consider keeping a dolphin in a home aquarium?
