No....she didn't want one.

Got home from work and found my arapaima dead on the floor. I can't believe how large he was getting! A true monster. 24+ inches, got him at about 10 inches in December.
She was asking if she could eat him

123 aquarium in NYC has these arapaima for sale at 6 inch.

Sorry it died but there's alot about this thread thats disturbing. One, she's smiling and holding it up like a trophy. Creepy and not right. Two, you don't eat pet fish. Not even because of sentimental reasons. Pet fish are usually treated with medications that make them unsuitable for consumption at some point in their lives.

I'd also have to agree that this isn't a species to be kept in a tank.
