Arapaima Pond Build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Must say, I love those GSM antennas. Aluminium, perfect round shape and very high quality paint on it.
I am pretty sure they will last a long time.

Very curious to see the water gushing in and hopefully create enough vortex to pull down most solids.
Once I know it's ok, second one will go in the ground and connect skimmer and mid level drain.

Figured a use for the dome of the second antenna. First one used as the bottom, but for cover, I will cut the other one in half, screw one half to the settling tank and use 2 hinges for the other half. Easy big and strong access door to the tank.

Oops, no pictures yet of the tank-cover.
Some other pictures I do have: the pipes for the settling-tank are finished.
Everything connected and in place.
You see 1 small PVC pipe, for diffuser on the drain.
2 large pipes coming out with a valve, 1 is to drain and clean the settling tank. The other one is to drain and clean the pond's bottom-drain.
Both large pipes are completely straight up to the end, where it ends with a 90' elbow. Only a 45' bend once the pipes go horizontal.
So it's very easy to clean with a long flexible brush if ever necessary.

The large capped pipe next to the tank is not glued yet, but will be used to release trapped air.
Not sure yet If I do that with a small airline or a valve. Need to test first.
By any physics laws I know, the waterlevel in this pipe should always stay same to the pond and the settling tank, so a simple hole should suffice.
Test first, then believe physics laws...lol...

Also started last bit of concrete for support of the front wall and as base for metal pillars for hooking a large sunshade-net at the same time.
Then all the 'big work' pretty much finished for now.
Ready to start moving the old tank as much as possible, then the liner in, finish bottom drain and test.

:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap truly amazing what you are doing for one stranded fish !!! keep up the good work this is awesome!

cant wait to see it up and running and your rescued monster swimming happily.

Thanks Kaosu... Having MTS and being in Thailand sure helps, especially in cost.
It's so far within limits and it helps that Mr.T. is truly an amazing fish.
What also helps is the fact that he survived that storm drain for 6 weeks. Can you believe it? Gives me the confidence that his water quality can be managed with less than tens of thousands of dollars in equipment. I will of course do the most I can, which is why the pond is big and filtration should be much better than even the lake he came from, pretty sure about that.

Found a list of JohnPTC's Gigas tank.

gigas channel cat, tsn/rtc or sometime that looks similar/ red devils, dovii pair, orange pike pair, jaguar pair, red terrors, electric cat, 2 silver aro's, a mess of plecos, splendida ( sp ?), black belt, oscar, p'bass, parrot hybrids and others...................

Makes for some interesting searches on pictures and specs.

Thanks John, if you are reading this, hope you don't mind I copied the list from your thread. :-p

Public holiday, quite some work done.
Settling tank 1 is almost done. We installed the top-cover, looks great.
Filled with water and tested the drain. All installation sand and dirt came out with one big woooosh.
Some leaks, I suspect pop-nails, but that's easy, drop of silicone on each of them and solved...
Waiting to see how fast level goes down. If not too much then I will just leave it and let dirt and sand fix the leaks.
It's outside, it's aluminium and filling up a bit every now and then is necessary anyway.
Will see to that tomorrow.

Concrete work almost finished. So next will be moving the pond a bit and putting the liner in.

Pictures later...cheers
