I'm currently looking for a website or individual who sells arapaima at a decent size something over the 4 inch mark I've seen around so far does anyone have a link or a possible contact to someone who sells these fish closer to a foot in length? also what size pond would I need to house one of these fish for life would something like 20x34 ft work? I've been thinking about one for awhile I just wanna know what tank mates these guys do good with would Oscar pacu and Arowana work?

Arapima will work with any other fish that is same size or bigger, however it will grow 2-3x faster than any other fish. I had own one before its about 6" it only took 3months to get to 12" and eat like a pig. especially you have big space and big tank for them, clean water they will grow like a weed. Because of the size and how fast these fish grow, a lot of hobbyist dont keep them for long.

That's cool man I really want one just don't wanna pay the 150 I found them for online plus another 50 in shipping for a 4 inch fish I've been told is "fragile" I read larger fish are better at atleast 8+ inches as far as hardiness

Yea Paima are not cheap, i have seen 250$ plus are that size so $150 is cheap IMO. Sadly you can only enjoyed them a few months, at max maybe 1years and you will need to find them a big pond or bigger home. They are seriously grow so fast, even in worst water condition.

Well I have a decent sized pond now. My possibly consider building a larger pond later on.

pond would work, keep in mind bigger space, faster grown. plus im not a big fan of a pond, cant enjoyed seeing them , only from the top. Good Luck with them.

Yeah I know but once he's over 2 ft and has outgrown my tank I figure he will be a cool addition even in a pond

Care to share a pic or two of the pond?

Being stuck in the fairly high northern hemisphere an outdoor pond with big tropical predators is just a pipe dream sadlt

mine grew from 5" to 28-30" in 6 months.. hope ur ready for them ;) ... there supposed to hit 48" in the 1st year of life. no fish to be messing around with in most private aquaria imo... 5kgal is a meager attempt to keep them in. $150-200 is approprioate price for them also.
