Hey...
I looked at a bunch of profile on the Arapaima Gigas online, but none of them tell me how fast they grow...
I am in love with some of them, but dont want them to grow too fast tooo quick.

Let me know... and yes I do know the approx. max. size.

My arapaima grew 6" in about 7 months. From 18" to 24". That is heavy feedings everyday. A fish's growth rate is deteremined by genetics, water quality, space, feeeding schedule, and type of food. An arapaima as well as other aros when larger can live healthy with feeding once a week. Good Luck in finding one, because they are truly a magnificent fish to own.
Do not worry about tank space, because there is always someone out there that is looking for a large healthy arapaima with a bigger tank. I sold my 24" one in less than a week.

I have 3 of them! They grow slower than arowanas! But they get bigger!
Here in Brazil, it's also difficult to buy a arapaima! (here we call "pirarucu")

cool... Thanks!
I am actually going to want to put one in my 370g I am hoping to order next week.
AquaFan-
Any place you reccomend getting arapaima?

370gallon is too small for a pirarucu, i'm sorry..
it'll do fine for couple months but VERY soon you will need a POND or a tank around 32,400gallons!
i can still give you places to buy them.

oh and by the way...you said you wanted arapaimas but don't want them to grow too fast right?
well making a tank last longer would not be the best approach, you wouold have to do everything WRONG!
the factors that make fish grow fast are high temperatures, a lot of food and frequent water changes. you would have to keep your fish colder then normal, not feed it as much, and not do your water changes. clearly this is not a humane way to keep tropical fish such as pirarucus.
if i were you i would get a outdoor pond and get heaters for it too.

I was thinking bout getting one, I never said I was getting one quite yet...
Thanks for the advice though :)
I am hoping to get a good sized tank after I graduate or something in that area of time :)...
thanks for everything you guys!!!

oh, you're a student too?
in high school or some kind of fish biologist place?
what do you call people who study FRESHWATER fish; not marine biologist.

well good luck with your future pirarucu, i love them too!
but get a pond!! i'm serious!

I am in high school and I know what your talking about, its on the tip of my tongue but I just cant say it... URGGGG...

I am wanting a pretty big tank after I get a job or something...
1500g tank hopefully :) 10' x 5' x 4'.

when i get into the hip hop music biz(i hope!) someday.
i'll hook u up!
