There is at least 1 or 2 members here who keep them... can't remember how to spell their username though...

If you really want to see them look up a 52K gallon tank...
 
look up JohnPTC, and watch the 24 hour live feed video of Sam's tank.. arapaima are NOT for home aquariums..

I very VERY seriously doubt there's many hobbyists that can afford the time and money it costs to build and upkeep a system that large, and most people with money who are just going to hire someone to do it want something more flashy, like a shark tank.

Now, a large tropical pond is more reasonable, especially if you live in a tropical climate. I still wouldn't recommend it... I think these fish should be left in John's tank and large public aquariums. They just get TOO big (even for a monster fish keeper).
 
this just means ur not a true monster fish keeper lol haha jk though i did have a thought once of getting one but where the hell do i get one in los angeles lol

that set up is beast! wonder if i can go swimmin in it? lol haha
 
I want to get one. I have the room to build a pond big enough for it but just dont feel like doing that much digging. Hahaha.
