man, i hate to say this but gigas keepers here in our place leave them in stagnant water full of green algae, it's an open pond actually with little or no filtration at all, fish seems to be happy, healthy and contented.
im surpised zoodiver hasnt posted on this yet lol he raises them and im pretty sure he said not to get them unless they are atleast 4 inches long as they are quite delicate before that... i could be quoting that wrong though.
Sorry, Zoodiver has been busy at work, but he's here now.
Just to expand a bit on what was posted:
They do depend on secretions from glads in the father's head to make it when young. I don't take anything under 8".
As for tank size, my last group were 6 feet long at 2 years of age. Think BIG. I don't suggest anything smaller than about a 600 or 700 gallon for them as a 'grow out'. Filtration is HUGE for these guys. These need aged tanks, not new ones. I have never seen them do well in new tanks. Pond vs tank is a big difference. Natural ponds work very well for them. Tanks bring different aspects that need to be addressed.
Thanks for that info mate.
if i do ever get one at this moment , then i wouldent beable to keep him , i think i might go for something eles , yet im starting my tank soon theres a thread about it , just going to get the wood the next cuppel of days so i will update then .
