African Arowana - Heterotis niloticus

These are "generally" accepted as the minimum requirement for life.

Accepted by whom?

Best to keep your aro in a tank that has a length 3 times that of the aros and a width/depth at least equal to that of the aro. So for aros over two feet, a six foot tank is just not long enough.

A 6' tank is simply not long enough for a 2.5-3' powerful fish like an arowana, end of story. You might get away with it for a long time with a jar/lei/asian, but I doubt they'd reach their full potential. For the south americans and african I think you'd want an 8' tank by the time they get to >2' so they can stretch their legs (fins?) a bit.

Eric I don't know if you've ever even seen a big silver, but I will tell you now there is no way a 3' long silver will be happy in a 6' tank....
very well said :D

And once again, this thread will boil down to an argument over what makes the fish "happiest", which of course is determined not by the animal, but by the owner. If we really wanted ideal environments for our monster fish, we'd all have 10,000 gallon tanks.
