It is also benificial to fluctuate the amount of salt, this is easiest if you just do your weekly 20% water changes and add no salt until the salinity drops to arround 1.001 and then adding more, then repeat the cycle.
Where do you get this information?!?! I have never heard of that method for ANY brackish water fish..
If you are changing your salinities too often, and have a larger bio-load, the shift in salinity could kill off your nitrifying bacteria and cause ammonia spikes.. You don't want to swing your salinity too much, as it could be detrimental..
Each type of nitryifying bacteria lives in a specific range of salinities, if you change your salinity, your tank would have to recycle itself.. So.. 'repeating the cycle' could actually be harmful to your fish.
Thanks for the info, I bought one that was kept in freshwater, however after adding it to my tank it died after a few hours, not sure why but it looked like it had an adverse reaction to freshwater. I will have look into this a bit more!
