Are all flowerhorn hybrid's?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the answer's, there are alot of beautiful flowerhorn out there. I say if the line stays strong enough to keep breeding with no problems go for it. Especially since Flowerhorn aren't going anywhere. As for myself, I'm more into pure breeds.

not to derail the thread further, but domestic dogs are in themselves a subspecies. 'crossbreeding' in dogs is only really applicable as far as that morph of the species goes. a great dane and a chihuahua are both the same subspecies- canis lupus familiaris. a true crossbreed would be dog with wolf type or dingo etc. same goes for humans. we are all homos lol. For us to crossbreed we would (and may well have done) have to go back in time and breed with say homo erectus or something. cichlids are different in that it is interspecies (sub) breeding.

Honestly i don't know a ton about flowerhorns but I know that they are hybrids and the secrtets on how to make them are in asia...

Flowerhorn is a catch all name for all CA hybrids. It's a design fish with the goal to accentuate certain desirable traits such as big hump, high body, and strong color particularly red. There are many designer hybrid African and SA cichlids in the trade, such as OB peacock, Fire Red peacock and fancy discus, but they won't be called FH. FH is an honest name as buyers know they are not pure species. On the other hand, many domesticated fish with pure species names are actually hybrids.

Mixed race human are hybrid according to purists standard. There are more morphological differences between races than say mixing different type of peacock.
