Just wondering if true citrinellus are less aggresive than Red Devils. Was gonna order one from rapps to go with my jag and O, because the devil I have now bullies them both so I had to move him to a different tank. So are they less aggresive?

This shouldve been posted in the CA/SA cichlid section, you would have millions of responces by now. when you say red devils do you mean TRUE red devils or just "midevils" ?

In reality most Amphilophus species show the same kind of aggression, some of them being more aggressive than others but in most cases they all have the same kind of aggression range. Oscars get bullied by just about any other cichlid until they hit the 7"-8" mark. Larger oscars are quite good at defending themselves, the small ones though are pretty easily bullied. Jags and amphilophus species go well together because they are equally aggressive so given the right amount of space to stake territories they tend to not get bullied too much by one another.

what size is your tank and if you are planning to upgrade, to which size? Red devils tend to be a lot smaller at adult size than true Citrinellus.

Crap I never post in the right section. And right now it's a 125, jag and oscar are both around 5 inches, was gonna get a 3 in midas. And I was going to upgrade in the near future to a 240. The jag is a female I'm pretty sure, and if it's a male I'm gonna have to get the 240 for sure or get rid of him.

sounds like you have good plans and you know about cichlids so I won't lecture you don't worry, I was just making sure they werent all in a 55 or something, cause that would heighten the aggression issues. Bare in mind, as fast as oscars grow I have found Amphilophus species (and FH's) grow faster. Nothing quite as fast as my giant snakehead but I can tell you right now that a 3" midas/devil will catch up to a 5" oscar quite soon. It might help if you have one of the naturally more aggressive oscars

My oscar is pretty mean, I put a 5 inch male jd in that bullys the midevil, and he injures it, but I put the midevil in, and the O gets injured. Lol nothing messing with the jag though. And I'm fine if it catches up, I can always get rid of the O if needed, just wondering if I should spend the money to get a true midas for the less aggressiveness, or just forget it

A true midas would be pretty aggressive, as Far as I have heard on the site true Labiatus devils tend to be more relaxed than true citrinellus midas, so the true midas would be as aggressive as say a store midevil. The WC fish I have had before never seemed to be any more aggressive than usual, and with rapps at least you know it will actually be what he says it is, because he knows right down the the collection point where they come from.

If you want one for its looks just get a store midevil, it will be quicker cheaper and still havethe same personality and look. I would only bother with the pure breeds if you were interested in breeding

No problem, If I was looking for a good pet I wouldn't care how pure it is.

There are a lot of cichlid snobs on here that will tell you to buy the pure ones, but then who will give homes to the regular ones? A lot of people hate on Mayan cichlids because they are always sold as festae when they are not festae. I have kept a mayan cichlid and I can tell you they are one of the meanest fish I have ever kept, I had a big female about 11" who had a 90g breeder to herself and killed anything that went near her. She had really nice colours and she was very personable. I would recomend them along with some of the less commonly kept Amphilophus species. But I have seen some seriously stunning "walmart" quality midas cichlids that were really cheap.
