Are amphilophus citrinellus nicer than Red Devils?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A true midas would be pretty aggressive, as Far as I have heard on the site true Labiatus devils tend to be more relaxed than true citrinellus midas, so the true midas would be as aggressive as say a store midevil.

The aggression level of any amphilophus (pure or not) will be based on the individual temperament of the fish.

Anyone that attempts to tell you otherwise hasn't kept enough to know what they are talking about.

Even amphis from the same batch ( siblings ) will be completely different.

I have 2 brothers who are apples and oranges in temperament.

Tbh, it's a toss up. I'll add that in my experience, true Midas were more easy going than true devils. I think if you put a devil in your tank and it wound up being a 17" male monster, your jag will wind up a floater.

Truth, there's some species who have a worse rep than others. But when you are talking such a similar fish, you cannot ever say one way or the other. Any one fish can be a killer or totally relaxed.

I agree with RD. in my expirience's midas's have been better community fish than Labiatus. And I would suggest possibly keepin at least 4-6 in the 240 to grow out with the O and jag. All the Midas I have do better in a community when I have them in groups. Once I narrow it down to a single male or pair is when craziness happens. So I prefer groups of 6. Good luck and as with any fish you'll need to keep an eye on them to ensure keeping peace:)
