are arowanas legal in florida?

When you purchase a fishing license in FL they give you a noxious species ID pamphlet. Walking cats are in the pamphlet along with SHs and other invasives. The shop that sold me my license went so far as to warn me that keeping an invasive in my catch bucket could be perceived as intent to transport or possess. So, it seems that 'immediate destruction' is to be taken seriously in FL.

I wonder how the flesh of Walking cats taste?...would they be allowed to be taken as food,if killed at the time of capture?

I've eaten Walking Catfish a few times a long time ago on my visit to Thailand. It was street food that was grilled on a stick. Tender and moist. It was pretty tasty from what I remember.

Catfish, the American farmed kind I get from the market,is among my favorite fish to eat.I wasn't too crazy about the swai and Bassa(pangasius)though.Maybe one day I'll get an opportunity to try some Clarias.

another stupid question. what do i need to collect local fish for my aquarium (fishing license?) and it is legal to collect fish and crabs ?
it seems like i can just get some pretty cool fish for free by catching them here in miami area

thanks

That's a bit more involved than a standard fishing license. FL requires a fishing license for legally capturing and retaining sport fish. They also require a research/collections permit for species not listed as sport-fishing species. They can either join fish and inverts or require species listed separately. You need to call Donna Watkins @ 850-245-3104 to find out your specific requirements. Be prepared to answer a large number of questions with answers geared towards your intentions for study (describing breeding behaviors, propagation as a food source, describing sexual dimorphism or synoptic differentiation by regional differences) since 'I just want to keep them in a glass box' will usually result in a denial of a permit.

damn. i better study on local fish before calling her. so i cant just catch a few fish with a net and put them in tank even with a fishin license?

and in my home town (Kiev), i have seen live clarius in supermarkets, along with live carp, trout, stergen, northern pike. i am not sure which exact species they were (they pretty large and brown)
