Are bass aggressive to each other?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
When I worked for Fisheries, we would find smallmouth bass throw up sunfish and rock bass quite regularly when were netting the smallmouth bass to measure them. Even witnessed a larger smallmouth bass chasing a school of 7" bluegills and ate one.
but never seen them go GLUTTON and cannibalize each other, right?

Oh I've seen smallmouth go glutton few times when their food supply is super abundant or when they're attacking large prey. Smallmouth bass are highly cannibal if they're in small lakes or rocky ponds, no different from the largemouth bass and they will feed on largemouth bass fingerlings as well.

When I was in Ontario, I kept both lmb and smallies. I did find the lmb also ended up solo and smallies I was able to keep multiple. This was in a 600 outdoor pond. Large mouth bass ate everything I put in there, I gave it away to a friend, he put it in a pond overloaded with goldfish all sizes. Cleared them out in a few months. He might still have it, I'll see if he has a pic or two of this fish.
