Are Beani's really worth the price tag???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Once again, the locals call them "Mojara Verde", not Guapote Verde. Guapote is used commenly for cichlids in the Parachromis group, and is a local description used in Central America (Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Guatemala etc...) Beani are in Mexico, North-Western Mexico. The term Guapote is not used is Mexico, at least not in the North. Maybe in Chiapas? Verde means green for those who don't know Spanish.

The locals call them guapote verde from what I've read, so in this case the name is coming from the local common name, not the aquarists usage of the name for Parachromis.

Regarding looks: I would like to add that my specimens, that I bought from Rapps this week, have a beautiful irridescence to them that I have not seen captured in any photographs. I bought 3x2" juvies from Rapps for $20 a piece and am not only happy with the price, but was also pleasantly surprised by what I received. Photos do not do them justice at all. I can only imagine what they are going to look like at maturity. GM, can you post a video of your fish on Youtube?

I'll get some videos up soon. Mine also have that irredescent sheen. One of the nicest looking CA cichlids I've kept. They are very outgoing as well, always begging for food!
