I have my Severums and Bichirs in the same tank, after a long time i decided to give them feeder fish and apparently the feeders came with "Ich", so now the sevs seem to have got the Itch. I have raised the water temperature and was going to add salt to it (my favorite method for curing the itch) ,but I'm not sure if Bichir can stand the amount of salt I'm going to add to the water.
Has anyone ever had a problem with salt in their bichir tank?
please let me know thanx in advance :)

P.S. the bichirs are 7 Senegalus and 2 Delhezi

i lost 5 bichirs after adding salt to the tank. the general consensus around here was that since i didn't dissolve it first, they got salt burns from laying on it. so be careful

Thanks for the fast reply Onion. :) I will be careful (and of course I'll dissolve it first).

also, try to add it slowly, not all at once. maybe over the course of an hour or too

i have no problem useing salt in my bichir tanks if you are are worried add in parts eg two tablespoons a hour underdose a tablespoon or three
disolve first as onion01 stated

Good to know. I've been just spooning the stuff in. No ill effects thus far but from on i'm going to be dissolving it first.

what concentrations due you all use. i use 1tsp per 3-4 gallons. would go higher but didn't know what they could handle

I don't use it with polys unless the tank has parasites. I'll give you everything I have to change your Fear Factor avatar.
