Are Bichirs Fin Nippers?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Some one could have easily decided to try that arowana and grabbed it by whatever it could get ahold of. Ive also had my albino grab a fin on one of my geos during feeding pretty sure it was an accident but at first she was like this is the liveliest pellet ive every gotten, I didn't think she was gonna let go.
+1 on the sketchiness of your lfs too. Never should have sold you an aro for that tank I don't care how small its now.

Now that I think about it, I do feel like my LFS is somewhat ill mannered, since this Aro, and another one the same size as it was placed in the same tank as what looked to be a figure 8 puffer, and fairly larger cichlids. Thanks for the advice, and response twentyleagues twentyleagues

tlindsey tlindsey I am not sure how many times to upgrade the tank, as my original plan was to go from this 29 Gallon (30x12x18), onto a 75 gallon that's 4 ft in length (forgot the width I was planning) when the aro is 6 inches, and then an 8x3x3 tank once the aro reaches 12 inches. Would this be alright or sufficient to do? If not, is there a standard to go by when upgrading tanks?

What are your plans for upgrading? The Aro will outgrow the 29 within a month or so once it starts eating well.

The 8 ×3×3 would be minimal but fine for the Aro so put plans in to motion soon. Silver Aro's grow fast.☺

The 75 will be ok until Aro is around the 9 inch mark. Then I would move Aro to the 8×3×3 aquarium. Also don't let the baby Aro be harassed by tankmates Aro is fragile at that size.

Ok, thanks for the information, I'll be sure to follow this then. Thanks again!

Y I personally have never seen a Aro that small .

Thats because they are very delicate and usually still have a yolk sack attached at that size. Slim change one that small will ever become a 3ft beast. If one was inclined to keep a silver Arrowana with a low mortality rate and house it properly I would suggest buying a 4"-6" specimen minimum.

To the OP, Arrowana grow very fast. Best practice would be having the tank you need now, not something you will get later. If I had $100 for every time some one said that they have fish X and will be upgrading to tank size XXX and never did, I would be a rich man.

Me too. I would imagine at that size even the tetras would pose a threat. I dont think ive ever seen a 2 inch poly either lol
that's the size that Burbotman Burbotman raises his polys from! My toothpick delhezi was 2.5 inches. Now he and the albino are like 3 inches. Those would be party snacks for your polys lol.

holy crap that thing is tinyyyyy!

that is an interesting fact. Never knew that about the arrowana yolk sac. I'd like to think given the OP's close timeline, that he has the stuff figured out.....but you are correct about upgrading. I'm currently in that boat due to funds and living situation. :p

Do polys have yolk sacks? When do they lose them?
