lol i stand corrected but i did think you meant water you can see like an ice cube not water that is in meat, ie we are something like 70%+ water. i just re-read my post and just noticed it seems a bit horrible, it was not meant to be sorry.
I stand corrected. 95-97% water. How do you think they get them in those nice frozen cubes?
So, to compare, a package of frozen bloodworms is what, 8oz? 5% of that means that .4oz of the entire package is protein. At $7 a package that means you're paying $17.50 per OUNCE of protein.
Look a a pellet, like Hikari cichlid gold (pretty basic) 8.8oz. 40% protein 3.52oz of protein per package. At $10 a package that means you're paying $2.84 per ounce of protein.
That's 6 TIMES better than bloodworms. Meaning you'd have to feed 6 times the amount of the frozen bloodworms to equal the a decent pellet.
I'm with Balton, stick with something other than frozen bloodworms for growth. As a treat once a week, sure.
Yeah. I know my grammode gets a big ole belly from eating a cube of bloodworms and he won't eat pellets that well. Can't be all water in the belly. I do agree that it ain't a good value for protein.
when you look at the protein values and water values yeh it does look bad. but the fish love them and you cant argue with results, and its results that matter.
I give the cubes as a treat although my fish seem to burn out on them. Anything you can give your fish to mix it up is bound to be good for them. So all this talk about good or bad really has to do with what else you are feeding them. Fish food is specially formulated, natures stuff you have to mix and match.
