I want to get a Burmese Pythons but I can't find anything on if they are legal or illegal. I can only find laws about nyc but is it the same in the rest of ny?

I too would like to know! Although with rear fanged mildy venemous colubrids.. Also what would the punishment be for having them?

That's a big no

I never said I would break the law.... I was just wondering what the penalty would be..

I THINK but am not positive... that they are ok outside of new york city....
but if you are in another big city you will want to check for that as well...

they are banned throughout the state of NY. you would be fined/and possibly jailed for a brief amount of time, and your animal would be confiscated.

HOWEVER, and i'm not saying to get one..but the bans here are loosely enforced. i see people with burms and retics outside all summer long. there is even a guy who proudly displays both his albino and normal burms on coney island, oddly enough, its almost always cops who are most interested(although they cannot and do not enforce the animal ban laws, these are handled by fish and wildlife agents, sometimes with the help of local law enforcement. they can certainly notify them though)

Would a dwarf burm be illegal too? Jw cuz arent they smaller? a.e dwarf.

If they ban a species they don't care about dwarfs. check the new york fish and game site though to see if it's specified.
@ The mighty oscar: Can you provide a link that states this please?

Have not yet found any specifics on large constrictors but others agree that they are banned in the state of new york. A permit is required for venomous reptiles but I do not see any specifics on that either.
