Are Caribes in fact more agressive than Reds?

Here is the deal, I have owned all the pygos at one time or another and most multiple times, multiple shoals.

Everyone is going to say that Cariba(and Piraya) are the most aggressive of the family. And many people are also going to say it depends on the fish. I think this mostly has to do with single specimans. But it is true

Cariba in my opinion are more aggressive in general then reds, they have a large lower jaw, they tend to eat more food and are usually less skittish

However, I have kept 5 cariba in a 125g tank twice now without any aggression at all. They are great fish. But make sure you feed them a lot!

oh yea, and a group of pygos is likely to take out other species of pygos if they are introduced to the tank at a later time. so if that guy was stating that he has a group of reds and tried putting some cariba with them, it wouldnt surprise me that the established group of reds would not end up tolerating the newcomers

that's when you have to scary the crap out of all the reds in the tank with a net or something and introduce the new fish and scary the crap out of them all together. once they settle down, they'll be like buddies. rearrange the tank also helps.

that was funny how you explained it. alot of people will suggest rearranged the tank too, but if the tank is bare, who knows, scare the crap out of them with a net twice and see if that works

haha

my Caribe are crazy. definetly way more aggressive than any red shoal i have ever had. they will hit any food as soon as it hit the water. I would even say they are more agro than my piraya's.
