Are channels illegal in cali?

So i thought channels were never illegal to own unless u caught it urself and brought it home but if u bought it at a lfs it would be okay....so ive been to 2 lfs where two of their employees says they cant bring any in cuz its illegal.....on the other hand i have seen channels at the lfs where they said they cudnt bring any.... one of them i SAW on at the time i asked....so are they illegal?

Troutking.....I cannot see anyplace in the code where it says you cannot have a Channel catfish, but this might be a new rule to protect one of Calis many endangered species (the code listed above is from 2009).

lol No they are not but the banned list is to keep fish out that will make California's endemic populations of fish and other wildlife safe from invasive species that will out compete them for food and habitat thus making them endangered. Invasive species doesn't always mean they aren't native to the same continent. The Continental divide is quite a hurdle for fish to cross unless man steps in to carry them over.

Thanks thats what I was trying to say, alot of people dont know that the native fishes of the West were very different than those of the east (pupfish, pikeminnows, Sacramento perch etc) until we stocked them out there.

Channel catfish like Bass and Bluegill are nonnative to California.

So theyre nonntive but tjose that make them illegal? What about sunfish? I want tk order from zimmerman but dont wanna be fined over some native fish
