Are Cichla Overrated?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Because a giant tank full of 2ft+ bright yellow/green/red bass is a sight to behold. :D

Just my opinion. :)

Well posting this question in the cichla section will likely get a biased sample pool. Most people in here have passion for cichla. Overrated is a relative term. To each his/her own type thing.

For me personally they are not overrated at all. An awesome genus in general and a sight to behold in person.

One of my friends recently went to Queensland and her husband's mum had a giant cichla tank.

Well she came back raving about how much more beautiful their 3.5mtr cichla tank was in person, she described it as "simply breathtaking" and I couldn't agree more.

Now all I've heard for the last three weeks is "giant tank this" "big peacock bass that" *shoves photo in face* "look at them! They're beautiful!" She's caught the cichla bug. :D

I like cichla because they are the "bigger" type of cichlids. Last time I checked this forum was called "Monster Fish Keeper", not Aquatic Central. :/

Brightly colored, interacts with the keeper, grows huge, a challenge to keep and breed...... definitely overrated, I think I'll stick to feeder fish.

Once you have seen the big kok you won't think they are overrated.
