i always had larger show tanks so this coulld be my excuse. ALWAYS raised up 10 to 14 sa and ca cichlids together 25% males to the rest females. start from a inch or 3 inches to there max. from flowerhorns, female dovi and umbee, beanis hatian cuban red devil red terrror red tiger mota synospillum blackbelt pikes texas red texas jd istlantum jags any way u get it anything aggressive or territorial. they work no destroying each other or tank accesories no biting me when i clean.5 years. but i see most people online have two fish n the tank or one that seems wild or nuts jus no manners lol. any way trying something different ,from having many fish to a few say 7 and a pleco. loaded now but there young for 3 months all 2 to 5.5 inches ,. so my goal s to have new 7 survive like my last run. working great so far but MY 7 consists gorillus blue , rio mag , redtiger mota,king kamfa flowerhorn, male jag , red terror female , sagitae x reddevil mix and mayb female loiselle too. like i said worked for me before and so far 225 gal lot of pvc , submarines , laserpointers, lights mix 10000k day ,2 blue leds 2 red 2 green 16 in lights, glo plants suctioncuped to tank wall. feeding strategies and food random .U KNOW DISTRACTIONS keep things fun fish get bored too. but ya da umbees good now but this is my challenge. and my work and my love if it dont work ill rehome others,but isee more life with mixing these beasts then to c them paired up or solo. if they protect their young why not each other,fun to watch them turn into family. after maturing cycle. ,,,,,,,wish u could c them all beg for food in perfect unison alpha first of course they pick u know , its called pecking order it changes sometimes , then u throw something different in feeding program,anyway we ll c im ready to rollwith the punches. ,,,sorrry for the novel, love my beasts

Holy **** How big are your tanks? haha. No, but in all seriousness there is some truth to this. I think if we look at 2-3 cichlids in a tank the aggression is very focused and can cause alot of damage. If there are many (as you have) Then the aggression is dispersed in a way that it will not cause a lot of damage to any single individual.
IMO,growing them together does help.i think it can be 50-50 to work or not when the fish are larger,say 6 inches or more.but the individual M or F that are chosen(each fish has a personality) will ultimately decide if they can co-exist with those tankmates in the given tank size,and for how long.we all know stories of peaceful,existing tank that had a fish--snap--for whatever reason
im bakkkk thanks guys imput good or bad. like i said did before n now lol. 225 gallon. works easy . but as a fish keeper got to b ready for whatever n how to deal with it will post pics soon. its just to me n my experience any sa and ca cichlid can b housed to da max plus. if introduced young. had top 10 in same tank no isssues .with a paired red devil with a festae female ,and a cuban paired with a red dragon flowerhorn ,and male argentinian with a female black nasty, not to mention a fader flowerhorn ,female umbee, male wolf,female jag ,beani, female black belt 13 inches tiretrack and fire eel ,common pleco , saddled n ornate bichir,texas all 7 to 13 inches except eels 22 in bichers 16 to 18 in. in 150 sqare then 5 to 6 years . from young they saw many cichlids come n go sold to freinds, but stayed stocked with my beasts never ever aggression to me . could pet most.1200gph to wet dry 50 gallon sump 36 wt uv sterilizer hooked to 140 to 175 gph pump 2 week water changes black sand and alot of pvc ,,,,,,,,,this was before now im growing out comfortably 2 gorillus blues 2 riomags 2.5 inches now male jag 6 inch there new alpha,red texas faded orange black white 3.5 inch male red dragon flowerhorn 3 inch ,red texas flowerhorn 2 inch, 2 red tiger motas 2.5 to 3 in,red terror 2.5 ,,rhino pleco 4.5 ,,red devilxsagitae mix 4inch 2nd in command, honestly 2 good leaders . there supermax is 225 gallons , like i said new challenge. but umbees might be female so looking easier if so sell one of each umbee,and im riding.but huge but if i get a male ,different story,i want to stay stocked but will have to let some go if get a male. but ihave time to enjoy all even if i got to he grows 10 inches.then im evicting.i will post pics, i also have 55 with red tiger mota female and red terror male paired , never bred before but there my 2 favorite species so ill try.many people come over my house like my tank especially after da club , i b having blue led glowed out, but to let u guys c it means more u know more bout this hobby all they c is lights and fish and a big tank. u guys know the work i put in get all these different species ,the online reading ,ordering antipating,the eqipment specs the work yall know da LOVE. uknow how hard it is to psych out a 6 inch male jag not to eat 2 inch fish. like i said experience . i will post pics ,,,,till then
