Are danios a schooling fish?

Yeah I see what your saying. The only "live" food I've ever fed them was earthworms from the backyard. Otherwise they just get Hikari Gold pellets and raw shrimp.

If I were going to try this, what would be the best way to go about doing it? Feeding the cichlids raw shrimp before adding them?

I had 7 Giant Danios in with my Oscars and they are now down to 4. They don't really bother the Danios most of the time. I have the Danios in with the O's for almost 3 months.

It works out pretty good because the Os are messy eaters and the Danios always hang around them during feeding time to get the scraps. (Plus I feed them flake every now and then)

i would try it but giant danios would be a better choice , cichlids are cichlids but with the three you have i would definitely try it

Yeah I went to my LFS about 20 mins ago and picked up 8 Zebra Danios to try it out. I think I'm going to feed my cichlids raw shrimp before introducing them to the danios.

i picked up a bunch of SA/CA and had zibras in to cycle the tank.. they lasted about 6 months .. then one day .. all 12 where gone ..

Hey, at least they lasted 6 months. lol I'm hoping mine will last at least half that long.

I'm going to try and keep the cichlids well fed at all times to reduce aggression and hunger.

Well, to be honest, the cichlids went after them for about the first 5 minutes but the danios were way too fast for them. The cichlids kinda gave up and went back to doing their own thing, so hopefully they will be ok.

Good luck, the zebras are fast, but eventually they will get them. That may be quite some time though lol

Well then...not even half a day and there are only 2 Danios left. Well I guess that puts that matter to rest. Tomorrow I will try Giant Danios, hopefully they will be able to co-exist because they are larger.
