Are Eheim Jagers Reliable?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don’t trust any heater either after a similar instance of heaters cooking all my fish. I read negative things about Inkbird so I just Rancho ETC111000 or the Bayite BTC201 with great results.

I personally use a Ranco. I reccomend that you coat any of the controller temp probes with a smear of silicone as water can enter the joint between the probe tip and cable housing and cause issues. My first probe failed for exactly that reason. Ranco specs not submerging them without protection.

It's always a good idea to add a layer of redundancy when it comes to heating appliances. I have Medusa controllers still running that have been obsolete for probably close to a decade. I'm sure at some point they will fail too.

i think any heater "can" fail.
ive had a fluval inline heater fail.
ive have a jager fail.

one way to mitigate a faulty heater is to use 2 heaters at half the power.
instead of a 300w, use two 150w. this way if one fails (usually on) it dosent have enough power to really cook the tank.

I've switched a few of my tanks to Inline Heaters and I've had 1 out of 4 heaters fail. So far, those have been pretty nice heaters for the most part. I used to have Marineland Stealth back in the day and they were the best, but eventually, even they started to have QC problems and people started reporting melting and exploding heaters. I also have a Titanium Heater with a Temperature Controller on one of my tanks and I eventually had to replace the heater, but I feel that having a Temperature Controller definitely puts me more at ease.

Can I use standard silicone? I have some lying around and don't want to spend 10 dollars for a dab of silicone.

Get some marine silicon, a whole tube won't even be $10 :)

I use jaegers without any issues in my 1600L tank. On my smaller tanks i use aquael easyheater. They wont get hot as a glassheater will in the tank wich is perfect for my rays
