are fly fisherman snobby?

I have had some pretty bad experiences with fly fishermen in CT on multiple occasions, never had any problems with them in Maine. I find most to be more humble. I run in to more snobby bass fisherman than anything.

I have had countless arguements with my friends (bass fishermen, and now doing the tournaments) about fish. Really just stupid debates on what pound line you NEED, how big of a lure, what kind of hook, and literally any topic. Apparently there is only one right way to land a bass lol

yeah shenanigans been there... was fishing with a guy when i went to fish last sunday on another guys boat and i lost several good fish due to a faulty hook and bad hooksets and every time.... "well you should have done this this this and this..." - guess hindsight is 20/20... because he only got one hit all day and lost it at the boat ;)

I think snakehead haters are snobbier lol

I used to spin fish, but recently switched over, and honestly I am snobby towards bait droppers using barbed hooks in our local streams where the trout are native, and when they keep a stringer of 5 fish just to show off, and keep fishing but if they catch something bigger they switch it for the smallest. But at the same time if a fly fisherman was doing this (which I've never seen) I'd be snobby towards them also. I've met plenty of spin casters that are super nice catch and release type guys though, and I'll admit I take the spin caster out when there is no hatch and it's the middle of the day. so I think it's the attitude towards fishing that people get snobby about, and usually fly fisher men lack this "endless supply of fish" attitude, so maybe that's why they appear snobby

most of the fly fishermen I've met have been nice and polite. The worst thing about fishing around fly fishermen imo is the fact that their backcast extends like 20 feet behind them, which is damn hazardous for everyone else around, if you ask me. I fly fish also, but I often use roll casts when there isn't a whole lot of space behind me.

Fly fisherman may be snobby towards spinfishers because fly fishing is a precision sport, all about finesse and presentation, and it involves an intimate knowledge of the ecosystem you are trying to fish i.e. knowing the hatches and life cycles of mayflies, caddis, etc. It is also more of a niche thing - fly fishing is really only optimal for fishing in streams with waders imo, whereas a bobber, hook, and worm will be effective in just about any body of water with fish in it. Furthermore, fly fishing equipment is really expensive.

I also recently started flyfishing and will take it on the boat with me. Mostly Saltwater for trout, snook and redfish but have caught a few small bass on it as well. I have only meet a few flyfishermen that are die hards and that is partially why i picked up a fly rod. They have all been pretty cool except this guy that at Bass Pro that runs the fly section. Big douche and snoobie as hell but i think this is a isolated case of Dbag. Hard to categorize a whole group of people though.
