I was thinking about getting one of the smaller gars or a hujeta and adding them in with my bichirs. I was wondering if anyone had any success with this combination. I know gars like to hang out near the surface and so do my sens.

ive got a florida gar and ornate bichir together and they mix quite fine except that the ornate will sometimes nib on the gar's tail. both of them are of the same length, bout 5 inch.

thanks. i just realized my subject line is screwed up. should be "are gars good with bichirs"...lol

make sure that they are of the same length.i have had my gar eaten by my endli....have learned it the hard way

Thank. I was more concerned about the gar eating my bichirs but I guess I could just make sure not to have in bichirs in the tank small enough to be eaten by the gar.

should be no problem mixing....

Heres the problem the true gar species range in max. size from 2ft-6ft+.That means big
fish bigger bichir species.the ''fake'' gars should be ok with the smaller upper jaw bichir species. But be advised you will need to watch for any signs of agression and be prepared to seperate them if needed-Anne

my hujetas are kept with yoyo loaches and bolivian rams. i dont see any problems.

There should be no probs.. I have my 14" Spotted gar with 5" senegal.. That damn senegal does'nt seem to be growing...

great. thanks for the response all. i may pick up a couple of hujetas then.
