Are Gars the fastest growing fish??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i believe pimas grow over 4" a month

I think many fish species have a general 0-12-18 month growth spurt to increase there chances of survival due to their highly predatory brethren or envoromment.
Pima's, Chicla, Red tails, Barra and Gator gars all fall into this category but I haven't experienced it myself that's all.

I think gars are the fastest growing fishes cuz when I bought my first gar on April it is only 8 inches but now it is 13 inches.grows really fast especially when feeded with Goldfishes

just because you have a gar grow fast doesnt mean its the fastest growing fish...

Exactly many fish species grow fast especially those with big mouths and teeth :D

I got Lone Nose Gar in my 75 gallons tank. He is little more than 2 ft long. I feed him regularly with minnows every weeks.... about 2 to 4 dozens, I do know that he will grow more than 4 ft. and I will be putting it in 500 gallons tank soon. They can grow fast... depend on how much you feed them. Mine seem to slow down after the first two years.

can we see some pictures? i highly doubt your ln gar could have grown to 2ft in a standard 75gal tank. however if it somehow did, GET IT OUT OF THERE NOW. the fish will not hit 4 feet, and i find it difficult to believe that someone who stuffs a supposedly 2ft long fish into a 75 has a 500gal lying around.

Ramesh-AWESOME collection!!!great choices of future monsters and when I do get a tank upwards of 500 gallons it will definitely mimic your chosen species.good luck man and i hope you have much success and can post future pictures of the monsters.I love the emperors and cichla the most.personally,I am not a huge fan of gars although I have had a needlenose in the past.I have been spending alot of time on studying emperors and asst. bass (for short)and just picked up3 orinos almost 2 weeks ago to add to my collection.
