Also, never keep solo discus. Always keep groups. The more the better. Stay away from any "wild" discus that only costs $25 unless you live in South America. This is a ridiculously low price for any wild discus in the US. Very suspicious. Quality Heckel Discus normally start at around $75 each, and go well over $100 each for really good specimens.

man i wish i lived over there if you want to get a heckle here the lowest price is around $500 and a good quality has cost me around $800

Ouch!

wow a wild caught for $25.00 dollars were do you live? and at a LFS I would bet that it's very sick, and got parasites. is it's poop white if so it's got internal parasites. wilds at whole sale prices aren't even that cheap, not even domestic discus are that cheap at whole at 4 inches. a genarel rule that a breeder goes by is $10-15 dollars an inch.

the best advice I can give you is to go to forum.simplydiscus.com and read everything you can there. then wants you got every thing set go to the vendor part and order discus throw one of the vendor/sponsers there.

I've kept both W/C Heckles and domesticated Discus. I treat and care for them the same way.

I don't breed them, but based on my research, Heckles are more difficult to breed like the Altums are for Angels.

Heckles are EXTREMELY difficult to breed. Heckles are sometimes crossed with a domestic, but I've seen no proof anywhere where 2 Heckles have produced a healthy batch of fry and grown out. (And I've searched off and on for years).

I know a discus breeder with over 30 years of discus experience that sold of his heckels becuase he doesn't believe they could breed in his 125 gallon.
