IDK IMO.. wow that was a lot of abbreviations..
anyways..
I think JDs are too aggressive to be kept with an acara..
acaras are semi aggressive i supose..
but JDs are just very aggressive so they need to be with others that are the same. At least if you want to see the Acara more..you should probably seperate them.
Thanks leah sounds like what im gonna need to do.:(

Dude, did you separate them yet? I think you should give them a little time to get used to each other (unless one is totally tearing the other up.) I have a blue acara and a JD in a 60 gal (among a couple others.) I got the acara first (along with a Nic)... then a couple weeks later, I added the JD. The acara kept going after the JD and chasing her to the top of the tank... but by the next morning, they were both swimming around the tank and ignoring each other. I figure they must have duked it out during the night (no one was hurt in the morning) and settled their differences. Now, they get along fine... although, the JD does put the acara in his place when he starts acting like a bada$$... but she has NEVER nipped at him or hurt him. I do admit... its a bit of a love/hate relationship!! Maybe you could keep yours in the same tank if you rearrange and give them some time to get used to each other as neighbors.

well since you have had the Jack Dempsey longer than the other fish he sees the tank as his. even rearranging the tank wont work "its his tank" he needs a bigger space

The JD killed the Acara ....

Damn, sorry to hear that man. That was fast. I guess that's why they're called Jack Dempsey's
Yeah the acara was one of my favorite fish, It did not actually happen that quickly this thread is semi old. Oh well live and learn. The Jack dempsey is gone as well I was pissed at him and got a cash refund and now have 8 African cichlids all playing well together :)

Awww, that is a shame! I know JD's can be quite vicious at times but they really are such wonderful fish!

And pretty too. All the people that come over just stared at him like he was some bizarre salt water fish lol
