I got information here in MFK that they can live in freshwater. And the LFS said they can live in freshwater. But in my opinon, they will die in freshwater. I had 2 of them, and they did not last more than 2 weeks. I was mislead. Any information would be appreciated.

I used to keep Jade sleeper gobies in brackish. Around 1.010 salinity. Kept them for a year and a half.

Are you sure what you have is a jade goby?

Careful keeping other fish with them:
"Sleeper Gobies are large fish that become territorial and aggressive as they mature. They can reach over 2 feet in length and will consume anything that they can swallow. For this reason, they are best kept with larger brackish species that can withstand some aggressive behavior, or by themselves. "

Yes, I am sure it is the jade goby. I asked a couple of people today in MFK who had the fish for more than a year and they all told me that they did not add salt.

I do not know if I should buy another since they dont last too long in my tank for some reason. I want to buy an 8 inch one for $30.00 and I am debating on it now.

My jade goby is at least 5 yrs old. He's been about 6" long in my 75g for at least 3 years. Keeps to himself mostly on one side of the tank. Salinity 1.010-1.012. I recommend only 1/tank.

Considering they grow 2' in length, I think FW stunted his goby. Forcing BW fish into FW their entire life causes stunting, weakened immune system & shortened lifespan. I kept a dragon goby in FW for it's life. It grew to 8" & developed large pink tumors all over it's body. Eventually stopped eating due to a tumor in it's mouth.

So does that mean that the jade goby is a brackish water goby?

I have been trouble finding specific information online proving that it is either brackish or fresh.

Everything I have found says brackish.

I have had my Jade Goby for about a year and a half in a 65g. He is about 13 inches long now. Last November he got sick with a fungal infection. He had a hole in his stomach about the size of a dime. I got advice to add about one tablespoon of salt per gallon and add melifix and pimafix as per instructions on the bottle. Within 2 days he was eating and the hole healed up within a month. I couldn't believe it. I think the salt helped him out the most. Now I keep the water salted and he hasn't had a problem since. It seems to me they can live in freshwater somewhat, but do best if there is a fair amount of salt. He also gets along well with my Sailfin Pleco, 2 Geophagus, Tinfoil barb and Redtail shark. He will go after any fish that will fit in his mouth though. He likes any kind of fish food, but he really loves to eat frozen Krill. Also they really make a mess. You have to be on top of keeping up on water changes ang changing filter media.
