Are My Cherry Shrimp Stressed?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That temperature is fine, they actually prefer it in a cooler range like that. As other people have said, swimming around is normal, and it sounds like your tank is cycled.

Also, if you want them to breed, I would recommend refilling your testing supplies (depending on your water source). The cherry shrimp I have were all healthy, mature, and females were saddling for many months, but never berried. Only after extensive research and some testing did I find my water had high phosphate content. I threw in some phosphate filtering and bam, more baby shrimp than I could handle. They can be sensitive to weird things you would not expect.

I keep my temp at 79 steady and they are active and healthy. They also are all over the place swmming and climbing etc. What you describe is normal. I would try to be very cautious at first with feedings. They need time to get settled. Overfeeding can be a huge problem and you could lose them all. Also, pretty soon you are gonna discover other little creatures living with your shrimp. Stuff like planaria, detritus worms and copepods. Dont worry about them, they wont bother your shrimp and theres no use trying to get rid of them. Although your ottos might eat them.

Hi dthomasi. I am in the same situation......many saddled RCS but never a berry. What did you use to filter phosphates? I would love to see some baby "skrimps"!

where did you order your 20 shrimp from?

I ordered from TadeGe.com. He lives in Florida, and has great deals on shrimp. He sometimes sells 30+ for 25$. Not bad in my book. I already have a berried shrimp. Only one, but several more are maturing. I'll probably order some more after the new year.
