Are my convicts going to breed?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I remove them at 1/8 of an inch and grow them until 1/4 and use them as feeders for fire belly newts

they breed about twice a month and I get around 20 fry

ok great I just got the breeding pair and actually got them with about 40 fry and their all around 1/8" now but im going to leave them in the tank with the parents for another 10 days or so then put them in my 75g and let my 10" filamentosum take them out one by one as they get a little bigger. I think he will ignore them at such small size but as they grow to 1/4-1/3 of an inch he will take them out and I will hopefully just keep this process going.

. Once had a pair kill of my juvie flowerhorn even though he was bigger. Its just a matter of time before they breed.

I have a pair in a 20 long that I threw my kenyi cichlid in. Within minutes the kenyi kicked both of their @sses and took over their nest. But in my 40 breeder, my larger male convict totally owns the kenyi. But my pair in my 20 long as been together for months and haven't bred yet, but I introduced a female with my larger male con and within days she laid eggs.

nobody wants to but convicts...u better have someone to take them unless you want 30-100 new convicts

sorry correction "but" is supposed to say buy

Is tempature manditory to encourage breeding? I keep my tank with no heater at about 69-70 degrees should I pop a heater in there and bump it up to mid 80's? Or will they breed at room temp?

if u can get them to breedat a lower temp i would do it, they tend to get aggressive even with each other at like 82 ish.. (only personal experience)

I just have convicts for the hell of it. I dont even know half of the time when they breed. If i want them to breed I usually crank the heater to 84-85 and they literally automatically breed. My community 55 gallon of convicts has about 5 pairs. They are swingers. They'll breed with each others different partners. Once had a pair kill of my juvie flowerhorn even though he was bigger. Its just a matter of time before they breed.

what do u do with all their babies? (im havin trouble with too many)
