Hmmm. I don't THINK it's columnaris, it doesn't really look like that, though it could be.
It could be actual fungus. If you think it's getting better just watch to make sure it doesn't start progressing and do what you're doing. It may even just be damage because I've had fish that looked like that after they got torn up.
