Are North American Fish Popular In Other Countries?

I live in Panama, and although some of the most beautiful cichlids, colorful tetras, killifish and other fish come from right here, when I have gone to any of the very few LFSs, or the Panamanian equivalent of craigs list, the only fish available for sale, are Bettas from Asia, African cichlids, guppies, goldfish and koi.
Occasionally there will be an add for a very expensive Arowana, or Peacock bass and oscars.

I would keep natives in a heartbeat if it was not illegal to do so up here

I would say the most popular N.A native fish would be Gars. People go crazy over gars! Bowfins would be another N.A sought after fish

I wonder how common the sail fin molly is (in the international aquarist hobby) They are the star residents of my 29 gallon. I caught them all wild, in the peace river, 6 blocks away.

(the peace river in Florida, is a world famous, fossil hunting, destination) I have a collection that would justify charging a small fee, into my living room) My avatar was an area I found many, this season) Also, teeming with mollies and jewel cichlids
Sailfins are popular in a lot of places, even the middle east

Just a thought, to be precise, North America starts in the most northern section of Alaska, also includes Mexico, and all of Central America, south to the southern border of Panama, it also includes most of the Caribbean islands.
