are pantyhose actually aquarium safe?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
they woulkd get stuck on the pantyhose because of the suction strength however i dont have experience with your filter but i'll put it this way, an eheim 2232 killed my fry =p

went to the fish shop to find a sponge, looks like I'm gonna have to go to the big fish store an hour away(my town has 2 fish stores that are equally useless). Thanks for the tips, if an ecco killed fry, my filter will probably as well.

you can use filter floss or quilt batting also just silicone a few layers together and cut through it like you would sponge make sure it fits snug on the pipe if you use it, however sponge is best

The area of the intake strainer holes and flow of the filter will determine the suction power of the intake and whether it will suck and hold the guppy fry. If you have an intake strainer that is 8 inches long x 1 inch diameter with 7 inch long slits cut into it all way around the tube there shouldn't be enough suction to suction attach the guppy fry to the nylon cover.

Home depot has some nice intake sponges in there pond department. I am using one on my XP4 intake and it is doing a very nice job. The sponge will spread out the suction contact surface area like a bigger intake strainer and minimize the suction at any concentrated point.

home depot is a fantastic idea, there is one right by me. I haven't quite made it out to the nice fish store, just been busy and I'm not in a huge rush to throw the fry in. Will definitely check out home depot and check out the selection

Sponge will divide the water being sucked in, act as a pre filter, and look proper on the intake. Just go to your Lfs and pick one up, they are cheap
