I have a 55 gallon with two African reed fish (rope fish) and one African butterfly fish. I would like to add a few peacock cichlids (males only). Both the reed fish and butterfly require higher alkalinity so that is not an issue. The butterfly is an omnivore but also enjoys the bloodworms I feed to the reedfish. Reedfish are socially peaceful but also quite active.
Is it possible for reedfish and peacocks to coexist? And if so, approximately how many peacocks? Are there any peacock species or other African cichlids species that would be better suited for this cohabitation?
