Unless something changed I know they are. So why did a "moderator" remove my thread and site me for an "infraction" when I asked if anyone had any piranhas for sale here in Portland? I can only assume it's because it says Seattle, Wa under my name. Well I apologize about not informing MFK of my recent home purchase and move to Portland but I don't think it's necessary to give an updated bio of my life to a fish forum.

I clearly said I wanted to legally buy a piranha in a city where it's legal to keep them. Not "id like to buy a piranha and drive it back to seattle." I still own a house in Seattle if thats a concern and where I move or where I spend my time is not any websites business.

I'm not trying to rant and I'm not mad, just annoyed. I'm not some serrasalmus smuggling seattlite trying to score some pygos in Portland. So maybe you should ask and get the facts before you condem and write fish tickets. I'm a law abiding citizen and if you're going to assume something about me please assume that.

On that note, does anybody have any piranhas for sale here in Portland? Other than redbelly? Would really like elongatus or a ruby spilo. Thanks.

Yeah I think I know the ones you're talking about. I've been calling around local fish stores and A to Z pets has some 8 year old ternetzis for 400 bucks. Thanks for the reply. Yeah I'm gonna steer clear of the pygos I think for now and and get a solo serrasalmus for an empty 90 gallon I have.

#1 - The "moderator" who deleted your thread did so as they felt they should. Your infraction will list the moderator who addressed the issue, private message that person instead of discussing it in open view to the community, that isn't negotiable or up for discussion.

#2 - If you don't feel the need to inform a "fish forum" of your life details why should the staff of the very same "fish forum" invest time contacting you to verify where you live if you already provided that info as Seattle..?

#3 - If your location said Seattle and you are asking about a species illegal to keep in that state, it was handled exactly as it should have been. The staff goes off the immediate info they have, the info YOU provided. What did you expect the staff to do? Contact you, question you and mapquest your street address just to see if a WTB add for a species is legit..? No.. The staff is a voluntary unpaid group of hobbyists who put in their own personnal time into running this site so members like yourself have a welcome community to post and be a part of.

#4 - You have every right to escalate a situation you don't think a moderator handled fairly to a Global Moderator/Admin for review. Again, that needs to be handled via private message or reporting a post (icon on the bottom left, triangle with an exclamation mark inside)

Good luck on your search.

Here's the legal situation as far as I know from having worked at a fish store in Portland. This is what was told to me, I haven't verified it.

They are technically illegal to import into the state, but once they are in the state they become legal to sell. I have no idea how that makes sense, I was told it's a legal loophole and that's how everyone does it. Would love it if someone could shed some more light on the situation.

I work for Animal House in Corvallis. We have a couple elongatus for I believe $100 each if you don't mind a little drive. They are about 5". If you see me in there, say hello! I'm the big guy with the tattoos. 541-754-PETS

I saw those fish last week - they are really nice looking.
