From my experience no, but there can always be a chance they might. If your tank is not going to have a cover i suggest you at least get a glass canopy like the picture i posted below.

where does one get a canopy like that? I have a few on my tanks (made by marineland) but I can seem to find anyone who sells them bare like that.
