Are rays better off in high ph/tds waters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My ro does not produce laboritory grade pure h20. What comes out has some content still not pure h20

I've researched the uses of rO for years .i mentioned earlier I have a family member that uses pure ro water in his tank. He keeps fragile amazon fish with out issues but he adds peat .

When you guys say ro water .theirs a difference between pure h20 and ro water. Ro water still has content
I do not use di chambers on my ros.

To use only ro water in aquarium one would probably not use a di chamber and would more than likely have to drip a massive amount of the total volume of the system per day to keep ph from swinging.I would also add peat To reconstitute the the water to a more similar amazon type tinted water.

Can it be done ? Yes . Will I spend thousands of gallons per day of water on this .no?
My 65/45 drip has worked just fine.ive been toying the idea of getting a larger membrane or hooking up a third ro but don't know what would be more efficient? I want to increase to about 80/20
My 20% tap water will be more than enough to reconstitute and keep my tank stable

Also stingrays do not drink the water.they get water from their foods . They extract the minerals they need from their foods

did u interview ur rays and that what they told u?

Again this is wrong. All fish drink the water...in fact in fresh water fish they spend a lot of time trying to get rid of the water they take on, it is called osmoregulation. In salt water fish it is the other way around, they try to take on water.

I think I am going to dip out of this thread as I feel I am just becoming a frustrated school teacher with a pupil who will not listen.

AND twice you have stated that I said it is lack of calcium that leads to lateral line erosion...please draw my attention to exactly where i said that...it did not. I said lack of MINERALS. I have checked all nine pages. Here is my post:

I have used RO extensively in reef keeping and understand what it is and what it does, re-mineralisation is the key and fish kept long term in RO straight with no other added water often die of lateral line erosion (where they have one) and other health issues. I can see how some people mix 50/50 and I understand that, it is not for me due to the waste water and I would prefer to use 1 source of water as a known quality, therefore I use hmac
